Heritage Lottery Fund Award

Heritage Lottery Fund We have received 9,800 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a project, Samlesbury Soldiers from the Great War in the War Memorial Hall. Awarded through HLF's First World War: then and now programme, the project will focus on commemorating each of the soldiers from the parish who lost their lives as a consequence of the Great War.

To mark the Centenary of the First World War, the project will enable local people in Samlesbury to come together to preserve the memories and heritage of the soldiers who died through the First World War. Volunteers will collect photographs, war records, newspaper clippings, documents, letters and photos of keepsakes, as well as family tales passed down to help them build a clear picture of what life was really like and make a permanent exhibition of their findings.

With help from professionals, the information gathered will be recorded, with an information board within the hall for each soldier and an archive will be created where everyone can access and contribute information. The archive will allow the public to discuss, contribute, share and research information about the Fallen.

Commenting on the award, Brian Taylor (War Memorial Hall Chair of Trustees) said: "We are thrilled to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and look forward to working with volunteers in remembering those who were lost 100 years ago."

Hall Refurbishment

The kitchen extension and refurbishment is now complete. Funding for the project which cost in excess of 40,000 has come from the Rural Development Programme for England which is funded by the European Union's Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

The toilet block refurbishment has also been completed and is looking great. The funding for this project came from Awards For All and South Ribble Borough Council Community Fund.
